The Power of Intention – Wish Upon Your Own Star
The power of intention is an incredible thought process and one that if tapped into regularly, can bring you abundance, happiness and success.
There are many ways to tap into your intentions. Start by setting a clear and positive goal, then behave as if you have already achieved your desired results. Be grateful and thankful to the universe, share your goals with others, and keep it a priority in your daily life. All of this is also helpful to give yourself a confidence boost when you're striving for your dreams.
Ultimately, if you stay focused and driven towards your goals, you are more likely to succeed than if you tackle them with only some mild enthusiasm and an un-planned map toward them.
The power of intention doesn’t always guarantee positive results right away. Sharon Salzberg, Co-Founder of the Insight Meditation Foundation, says “If we fall, we don't need self-recrimination or blame or anger – we need a reawakening of our intention and a willingness to recommit, to be wholehearted once again.” Salzberg stresses repeatedly that intention is not about promising desired results, but rather maintaining a sense of faith in yourself - about always being willing and able to pick yourself back up and try again.
“Intention is not just about will...but about our overall everyday vision, what we believe is possible for us,” according to Salzberg.
Another advocate with a unique perspective is big-time Hollywood director, Tom Shadyac, who is famous for his films including, Liar, Liar, Patch Adams, and Bruce Almighty. One day, he gave up the glitz and glamour, moved into a mobile “tiny house,” and decided to focus on living in a more intentional, positive way. Shadyac of course made a documentary of his experience called, “I Am,” following his transition into a new style of life – one he put so much positive intention into. According to Shadyac, “the one thing that advances society is not technology or so-called development; it's love – that one principle.”
Positive intention brings awareness beyond the everyday and into the spiritual.
Whether you perceive it as the power of intention, karma, the power of positive thinking, or as simply a cause and effect generalization, the concepts are all grounded in the same fundamentals. Think positively and do good. As human beings, we love to consider ourselves as independent individuals once we're all grown up, and that's simply unrealistic.Even the smallest interactions with one another can affect us greatly. It may sound overwhelming, but in many ways it's a beautiful realization. Shadyac said, “We've got to remove our boxes around the self. It doesn't work that way. There is no 'I.' That's an illusion we've got to get beyond.” The power of intention is a kind, selfless, and motivating state of mind.
